Introduction:
A double cone rotary vacuum dryer is a drying equipment that integrates the functions of material mixing and vacuum drying. The inner drum works in a vacuum state. Steam or hot water is transferred into the heating jacket to heat the inner drum. The heat is transferred to the wet materials through the inner drum to vaporize the solvents in the wet materials and diffuse the vapor to the low-pressure space above the materials in the drum. The vapor is thereafter separated from the solids in the material and is exhausted through the exhaust pipe. The drum is rotated by a reduced motor, and the materials in the drum are continuously turned up and down, in and out, and the heating surface is changed. At the same time, the solvent vapor is continuously eliminated, which accelerates the material drying, improves the drying efficiency, and achieves uniform drying. The machine is mainly composed of a double-cone rotary drum, a condenser, a dust collector, vacuum extraction system, heating system, cooling system, and electronic control system. Usually the drum is made of one of the following methods: (I) inner drum and cooling jacket with deflectors are made of SS304 or SS316L; (II) inner drum is made of SS304 or SS316L while jacket and outer shell with deflectors are made of painted carbon steel; (III) inner drum is made of SS304 or SS316L while jacket is made of carbon steel, shell with deflector is made of SS304 or SS316L; (IV) inner drum is plated with glass while shell is made of painted carbon steel. The interior of inner drum is polished to Ra≤0.45μm, the exterior of shell is polished to Ra≤0.45μm or Ra≤0.8μm. The drum is connected to the reducer via a sprocket chain. A rotary joint or a mechanical seal is adopted for sealing of the drum. An anti-back suction check valve is available as an option at the vacuum end. One of the following options can be chosen as the discharge mode of finished products: by a butterfly valve, by a butterfly valve & quick-installing blind plate, by worm gears & butterfly valve (with PTFE lining). The vacuum pipes are usually made of stainless steel pipes or sintered tubes. Steam heating or hot water heating is available for user’s option. The electronic control system includes ON/OFF buttons for rotation and vacuum. Explosion-proof automatic control devices, explosion-proof motors, and inverters for speed regulation are available as an option.
Applications:
The double cone rotary vacuum dryer is widely used in the vacuum drying and mixing of powders and granules in pharmaceutical, food, chemical and other industries, especially applicable for processing of the following materials:
● Heat-sensitive materials that cannot withstand high temperature;
● Hazardous materials which are liable to be oxidized;
● Materials from which solvents and toxic gases should be recycled;
● Materials in which extremely low residual volatile content are allowed;
● Materials that should be thoroughly and uniformly mixed.

Advantages:
● In the process of vacuum drying, the pressure in the drum is always lower than the atmospheric pressure, the quantity of gas molecules is very small, the density is low, and the oxygen content is low. It is suitable for drying medicines which are liable to be oxidized and reducing the probability of infection.
● Since the temperature of the moisture in the vaporization process is directly proportional to the steam pressure, the moisture in the material in a vacuum environment can be vaporized at low temperatures to achieve low-temperature drying. It is particularly suitable for the production of pharmaceuticals with heat-sensitive materials.
● Vacuum drying can avoid the surface hardening that is often caused by hot air drying at normal pressure because the pressure difference between the inside and the surface of the materials is large during vacuum drying. Under the effect of pressure gradient, moisture quickly moves to the surface, and therefore surface hardening can be avoided.
● In a vacuum state, the temperature gradient inside and outside the material is small. Due to the reverse osmosis effect, the moisture can move and gather independently, which can effectively overcome the phenomenon of scattering caused by hot air drying.
