Causes of material splashing during use of planetary mixer

Jul 20, 2021

Planetary mixers are also called planetary dynamic mixers or double planetary mixers. Sometimes materials splash out. The possible reasons are as follows.

1. When the material in the barrel is less than 30% of the working volume, and the linear velocity of the high-speed dispersion disc exceeds 7 m/s, the slurry will splash on the upper barrel and the planetary box, which will cause the pollution of the finished slurry.

The dispersion at this time actually does not work, only the revolving and rotating twist frame type stirring paddle works, and its function is to quickly and initially mix the powder added into the tank into the liquid. But its speed should be determined according to different materials;

2. When the material in the barrel is added to the working volume, the revolution at this time is only an auxiliary function for dispersion. If you open it too fast, it will splash the slurry onto the top. From the actual experience of producing battery slurry, the speed should be controlled within 30% of the design speed.

Dispersion at this time is the key. Its function is to dissolve and refine the powder in the slurry into the liquid, thereby changing the physical and chemical properties of the mixture to meet the requirements of the process formula;

3. When the material in the tank is added to the working volume, if the vacuum degree is not well controlled, the slurry will be stirred and sucked up. The reason is that when you raise the vacuum to close to -0,1, the volume of the slurry will become larger due to the presence of gas in the slurry, and the high revolution speed will cause the slurry to splash to the upper part.
